Black Socks

Black socks, they never get dirty
The longer you wear them the blacker they get.

Sometimes I think I should change them but something keeps telling me
but maybe Not yet.
Not yet.
Not yet.

I just love this song. I can hear it for hours and hours especially the last part. Harmony and stuff.

Sick

Fell sick today.

Not very good feeling, but then again when is falling sick a good feeling?

Woke up with fever, a terrible terrible headache and an aching body. Felt nauseous. World spinned when I stood up from bed. Felt totally like shit man. Okay, that's shit pause man. Not like a new superhero or smthng.

My mum was throwing up a million and one reasons why I fell sick.

"Ai yah, not enough sleep la" [I slept from 1am to 2pm]

"Never drink enough water lor" [I drink at least a litre of water everyday on weekdays]

"See la! Never take vitamin C" [I take Yakult every morning on my way to work, fruits after breakfast at work, fruit juice at least once a week, and Vitamin C drink 3 times a week at night.

And for some strange reason, while I'm eating my dinner - porridge - my dad has to ask me why I've withdrew so much cash in the past few days. Like I'm sick, I'm groggy, I don't feel like eating, let alone talking, and he keeps bugging me what I used a hundred and sixty for.

Well, I guess some people show love in a truly scrumptious kind of way.

AGM

Packed auditorium. A number of people seated sleeping. Boring speeches. All devoured the post-reception enthusiastically.

Sounds like any company's AGM?

It's a Graduation Ceremony.

It went quite alright; I managed to grab a few winks. [eh, I didn't go to hear speeches hor]

Besides, the emcee merely repeated whatever that was printed in the programme booklet. Sheesh. How lazy can she be?

Imagine me being the emcee. I won't dispense with the formalities.

Me: Yo, yo, yo! Welcome to the Graduation Party. [serious voice] All rise! [whips out hammer and whacks the podium three times. Guest of Honor walks in and takes his or her seat.] Alright, let's dispense with the formalities. DJ! Let's get this party started!

And, graduands dance their way to the middle of the stage to collect their cert and belly bounce with the Mp before heading off.

All, to the beat of club music.

With me, it's not hard to imagine. =)

Less Than 24 hours..

So, the countdown starts - less than 24 hours to the Harry Potter AGM Graduation Ceremony.

To be honest, I'm more excited at seeing my course mates than receiving the cert that officially makes me a Diploma holder.

The various project group mates I've worked with, especially during my final semester. It ain't easy to find good mates that knows how to laugh, and make each other laugh. And even though our end product isn't that fans-garnering, we still managed to pull it off and have a good time.

And, like, how often does such blessings occur in life.

Oh wells, time to iron my cloak robe graduation gown and get ready for the showdown ceremony.

Cheers! =)

It's all about bytes.

Life is reduced to bytes.

Perhaps reduced makes it sound so derogatory, maybe I should use Life = Bytes, in an equation that people can understand. But, with technology being so infused in our daily routines, I wouldn't be surprised if you've already came up with that equation.

Imagine the joy and pride as a baby takes his or her first steps. 50 years ago, parents could only take black and white photographs and store them in huge photo albums, which would be periodically pulled out and gushed over during family gatherings.

Then came color photographs, and while some may have posted photos of first steps to a significant person, the act of recording memories didn't change much.

Till now. The ways of recording significant events like first steps or First-Month birthday celebrations or 21st Birthdays are endless. You could use a camcorder to record, and then transfer to the computer, to be either uploaded or burned onto a disc. Discs could be then passed to family members or friends for viewing pleasure. The video could be uploaded to file sharing sites [a quick search would reveal more than 50] from which, the link can be forwarded, or if the file is not that big, could be sent via email, where it can be kept virtually forever.

But why stop at just a video? Cameras are aplenty now, both in mobile phones and its original form. Just a few clicks and the priceless expression of the child taking his or her first steps can be shared instantaneously. MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), Bluetooth, Infrared, and the list goes on and on, with regards to sharing the images.

And still it doesn't stop there. Unlike days of yore, where good quality pictures could be only be obtained from photo printing shops, one is able to purchase a decent printer and print out images of the same quality as printing shops.

But why print? Just save the Earth and get a digital photo frame that allows you to keep several images in it, like a slide show, except you don't need a projector or the computer to be on 24/7.

And so there you have it. A baby taking his or her first steps, of which is readily converted to mere bytes. Images only a few kilobytes, while videos would be several megabytes.

Now seriously, who doesn't take photos when meeting up or celebrating special events?

There would come a day, when instead of mother and child sitting on the sofa flipping through photo albums, they're sitting at the sofa watching a photo slide show on their television monitor. Or maybe a home made video instead. On Youtube.

That day draws nigh.

Free.

If you don't know by now, Yahoo has rejected Microsoft's bid. Which is rather risky, I'll say.

Imho, I rather Yahoo accept Microsoft's bid, and pray that the name remains. Who can forget the catchy tune for Yahoo! adverts? It's definitely good if at 1am in the morning, I can remember the tune of the Yahoo! name used in commercials, and yet I can nay recall a tagline of any sort for Microsoft or Google.

But seriously, Google is kindof monopolizing the market. I mean, come on, it's like being a jack of all trades and master of most! Gmail, Google Video, Google Pages, Google Apps, and the list will definitely go on in time to come.

[I wonder if any parent would ride on the success and name their child google]

I can still recall the days when Yahoo! was so in. Back then, it had like 6GB of storage, if I remember correctly. People flocked to Yahoo! because of its huge email storage limit. Attachment to be big to be sent via hotmail? Yahoo it over instead.

Sadly, Yahoo messenger came out a bit too late. Never really liked Yahoo Messenger. I know a few people who still use it, but it just wasn't cool enough. Back then, it was about coolness. Now, it's more about interoperability and efficiency. You can't just anyhow whack out a software and expect people to flock to it. It has gotta look attractive. It has to be easy to learn, manage and operate. It has to be able to interact well with other softwares. After all, if everybody's using MSN Messenger, why would I want to switch to Yahoo?

I guess software companies all have their good times. Personally, I think Yahoo has done a good job with bringing email one step further. If not for Yahoo, our emails nowadays may only have storage of a gig or so.

And Yahoo Ads. I remember using them to advertise for sale of flats and others for my parents back then. During that time, it was easy to use, and it actually maximized the timelessness of the Internet.

Perhaps they didn't really adapt to the changes. I think the only reason Microsoft does well is because of its Operating Systems, applications and games.

Yet who could have predicted the rise of open source software now. From operating systems, to office applications to image editing softwares to antivirus clients, you can find a free version online. Last time, most people steered clear of free softwares, because it was either a demo, limited in services, or suspicious.

Now? I can use a free Internet browser operated on a free Operating system, that's kept secure with free firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-adware softwares, to download free image editing programs, office applications and free media players.

With so many price increases, at least there's stuff that still remain free.

Portability

From portable hard drives to flash drives, it would only be a matter of time before portability moves to the interior of such drives - softwares.

And, though it hasn't garnered much public attention, the number of applications that can be used just by opening it from a portable drive like your Ipod or a thumb drive is growing!

Imagine arriving on the dot for a presentation, only to realise there's no software on the computer to run your presentation?

Or how about being able to surf the net, upload files, chat online, and not leave a trace of evidence behind?

Best of all, it's free!

Update.

I've done up the Archives section already, so if you wanna walk through my immature and naive memory lane... it's all yours. No admission charges applicable. Took me around 4 hours.

Slight adjustment to my Links tab, though it's still a work in progress. Especially cleaning it.

Let me know if the Archives section doesn't work for you. Thanks.
