Mac's Nasi Lemak and Chicken Congee

A few weeks back, I was regaling my younger friends about events and products that were ever-so-popular in the days of yore - 80 cents chicken rice etc etc. Then, I recalled how Macs used to sell Nasi Lemak and Chicken Congee for a short period of time. This was met with disbelief.

So, I decided to do a bit of digging (aka googling) but no results came out. Had I really made that up? Surely it wasn't just a dream?

Having exhausted all immediate options, I proceeded to email in to Mac's to find out more. They misread my initial request, but then responded positively.

Here it is:

Mystery solved! :)

Evacuated Tube Transport

I came across this conceptual travel device. An airless, frictionless form of transport that is based on magnetics, these travel capsules can accommodate up to six people, and can travel to a speed of 6,500 km/h. I'm thinking how awesome it would be if this were to be used in Singapore. Though, with a growing population of 5 million, we would probably need to import a few thousands of such capsules. Maybe, designers could adapt this for overpopulated small pieces of land measuring 42km by 21 km, (like Singapore). Perhaps a longer version of these capsules, and standing-room only instead of sitting?

Dying is Banned Here

In a village called Falciano del Massico, Southern Italy, there exists a strange new ban in place - dying. With the current graveyard being overfilled, the Mayor resulted in this new ban, in an appeal to authorities to build another cemetery.

Beetle, Beetle

Beetle Beetle (sung to the tune of Christmas, Don't Be Late)

Beetle beetle I don't care
About your life or how you fare.
Fast and swift you hit the fan
then you bounce around and land.

On and on you hit the light
only to find it too bright.
So you settle down near me
scaring the shit out of me.

Beetle beetle I don't care
Go kill yourself if you dare
Better now than later on
Knock yourself out till it's morn.

One Pound Fish

We all know the best commercials or good marketing campaigns are those that are either plain catchy or sheer brilliance. Some use colors, others vivid images or memorable lines (Mrs Chong, I'm really very tired).

What if you are advertising for a shop at a market? This dynamic duo from UK takes it all by creating their own jingle for their fish store.

One Pound Fish. Need I say more?

Home is where the Ohm is

If you're in India, home is where Ohm is. Bandra Ohm I mean.

Designed by James Law of James Law Cybertecture International, this 140m tower is apparently inspired by "the ripple effect generated by water droplets." Part of me wishes Singapore had these kind of buildings instead of HDBs. Then again, with all the bamboo poles sticking out, it will probably turn out to be a huge rambutan or something.

(Yes, the huge void in the middle does remind me of Allspark from Transformers.)

Another interesting feature is those blue lines you see glistening outwards are actually pools.

Since this is located in India, I'm guessing it will probably be rather hot, thus people need to cool down in a pool. This would be totally cool too, cause you can strip your clothes, wash it in the pool, drape it over the glass, go for a relaxing swim, and a nice tan, and then wear back your gently roasted clothes back on.

I'm assuming the rain direction is not angled in, and that there are few birds flying around. I can only imagine wanting to swim, but having to call the pool cleaners every time.

Scared the shit out of you

This bathroom will literally scare the shit out of you.

Designed by Hernandez Silva in Mexico, this bathroom comes with a glass floor. And FIFTEEN FLOORS of emptiness below you. You could turn out the lights of course, though I highly doubt that would make much difference.

Now, all you need is a complementing 'In case of emergency, break glass' signage.
