Reflections..

Band Camp '06 has just concluded and with it a few chapters of my life. The camp brings back fond memories of the band camp two years ago; the one i was part of the camp committee; the one where I was group leader and tried to get Elfirah to speak out. Now, she's grown up and to say she's leader is a rather well-supported fact.

Knowing that this batch of leaders, though still in civil unrest, has tried their utmost best to get along with each other. While I know most of them, when looking back upon this band camp, will remember it as a disaster, I know I will look at it as a success.
A half-empty bottle of water is a half-full bottle of water.

'How can it be a success?' you ask.

A success in terms of maturity.

The varsity of unique and pampered lone characters in the committee have forcefully increased each individual's maturity level. I am sure and confident that every committee member has had at least a sleepless night pondering and reflecting about band and his or her performance level. The one who was shouted at wonders if she did any wrong. The one who lost his temper questions his tolerance level. He that contributed the most feels compelled to do more. She that is happy-go-lucky longs for peace and prosperity within the committee.

What I see for this batch of leaders is that they will emerge to be strong leaders. Moulded and tearfully shaped by this experience, they will know what to do and how to react when they become a team leader in the working aspect of their life.

Being part of the camp committee has not only highlighted the fact of a common goal; vision; mission, but has also tested the faith in their (and others) belief of 'one band, one sound'.

Even as the author crafts this post, he is aware of certain unfairness and young anger that exists within the committee.

Yes, this batch of leaders may be so un-bonded and so differentiated in their views, opinions and working processes as compared to previous batches. Yet! they have stood the test of time and while a few have fallen, others have risen and soared on wings of eagles.

Not just a test of bonding or patience or tolerance, the camp proves to be a test of faith. Can He that is a believer of Christ be a good leader? Or she that agrees to take up the Cross and follow Him be a diligent worker?

This batch of leaders has good Christian Men and Women yet the transparent incompetency highlights and reflects upon their faith.

Am i judging by mere looks? Yes. And that is how the world judges us too. By deeds, thoughts and speech, we show the close relationship we have with Christ Jesus our Lord, not by telling people we go to church on sundays or flaunt our Bible around with pride.

I am saddened for you if you cry on Sundays and swear during the other days.

I strongly believe in the need for good Christian leaders in the band. Look upon Woan Rong and Ted as an example. Two devoted, dedicated, strong and committed children of God who served Him with a love for music, life, and learning.

It is my wish that the next batch of leaders who will rise to the challenge of being a leader, who will deal with criticisms and unfair comments from every side, from the teachers to the graduates to the band members, are good and strong Christians whose faith may be enriched and empowered along the road of life.

As they stumble and fall, may they receive thy Divine Grace. May their eyes never leave your throne as they are led and guided by your Spirit and wisdom.

Only a fool says there is no God.
